Orange Jelly

Dacrymyces chrysospermus

December 2024

Heart Trail, Pender Island, BC

Mistakenly called Witch’s Butter. Orange Jelly turns into a watery mass as it ages. Witch’s Butter turns hard.

Found in late fall. Grows on soft wood. Most jellies are not poisonous, but the taste makes it not worth eating and it cannot be cooked.
